HNTracker (HNT) is our in-house project management
application. Additionally, it serves as a testbed for new
technologies to be integrated into HN2 at a later date. In
development since August 2002 and in use since September 2002,
it reached its first full release on Friday, December 13,
2002.
HNT is tailored heavily to the needs of the HN2 dev team, but
has the possibility to be useful for other people as well. Its
main limitation is that it is designed to track work on a
single project.
Major features of the current version:
- Easy job prioritization
- Definable job categories and statuses
- Normal and Admin users (only admins can change job
priorities, create certain types of jobs, or assign jobs to
users)
- Powerful search facility
- Automated creation of history records so every change
is always documented (humans can always add more information)
The next release (R3) will have features like:
- Groups, allowing the assignment of jobs to teams and
filtering of joblist data
- Segregation of jobs being specced out from the main job queue
- User prefs to make the interface more tailored to a
person's work style (filtering, sorting, removable/extra
fields, custom joblist views, etc.)
- New pure CSS menu system (stolen from work on coming HN2 release)
- Parent/Child job relationships, allowing the creation of
"umbrella" jobs which can't be closed until all their children
are completed
- Integrated admin tools for every aspect of the system
